Hypromellose Eye Drops – An Explanation of What Has Happened.
Recently we have had a few emails in as dispensing practices have had their Hypromellose Eye Drop prescriptions returned to them and they want to know why.
The answer is that Hypromellose Eye Drops 0.3% were removed from the Drug Tariff Part VIIIA in June of 2022:
So now Drug Tariff part VIIIA shows only the following under Hypromellose Eye Drops and only the 0.32% strength is listed under the Cat C price for the brand:
However, Part IXA of the Drug Tariff continues to list various brands of hypromellose eye drops as before, but as they are in Part IXA of the Drug Tariff they should be prescribed by brand:
So if your prescriptions have been returned for further information you should ensure that the brand given is listed in the main body of the prescription.
